Touch-A-Truck event
Some pretty cool trucks were all on hand Saturday in Long Beach.
The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual ‘Touch-A-Truck’ event at the Long Beach Harbor.
First responders, military, and even the garbage company were out and about to showcase their cool vehicles.
Children of all ages were invited to the event, getting the opportunity to get up close and personal with the cars and trucks.
Gabrielle Rose with the chamber of commerce tells News 25 that the event is beneficial in getting children familiar with law enforcement. “A lot of their heroes drive these vehicles and it’s a great way for children and their families to interact with their heroes and also learn about safety. If they ever need to encounter a police officer or someone, if they ever had an emergency it makes them more comfortable in that situation.”
Daniel Groh with the Long Beach Police Department said, “That’s one of the best parts of this, you get to interact with the children and the parents. We give them the color books, the badge. I tell them they’re my helper for the day. It makes the kids feel more secure knowing that the police officers are their friends. They see too much how we’re the bad guys, this way we get to show them how good we are with them.”
