Jim Bloomfield leaving St. Patrick football
Long-time high school football coach Jim Bloomfield is stepping down from his post as the head man at St. Patrick.
The story was first reported by the Sun Herald and was later confirmed by WXXV. Bloomfield tells News 25 there was a difference of opinion about the future of the program, but says there are no hard feelings about the split.
During his time at St. Patrick, Bloomfield led the Fighting Irish to an overall record of 6-36, ending the program’s 23 game losing streak in 2017.
Bloomfield says he has plans to coach elsewhere in 2019, but will always remember his time at St. Pat in a positive light. “My biggest, I guess, thing that I taught them was to get up. And get up and get up and get up. Don’t ever stop trying. And I think they won a lot of hearts , their hearts were enriched by that and mine was and I think there’s a lot of lessons learned. My players, we loved each other, cared about each other and I know that the program is a lot better off now than when I got there.”
Prior to St. Patrick, Bloomfield was the head coach at Vancleave for 15 years.
