Warming up for Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon

It’s the final countdown with less than three weeks before thousands of runners pound the pavement in the third annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon.

In less than three weeks, thousands of runners will hit the pavement for the third annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon on December 8th and 9th. Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon Communications Director Erin Rosetti said, “We have several events within the race weekend. You can expect a 5K on Saturday, a kids one mile, a beer mile, which is new this year. On Sunday, we have our half and our full marathons.”

On Saturday, December 8th, runners will take off at 8 a.m. for the 5K race at Point Cadet in Biloxi, followed by the Kids One Mile run afterwards. At 3 p.m. that Saturday, the Great Lawn at Harrah’s Gulf Coast will play host to the new relay beer run which is sure to be spilling over with friends willing to run the race alongside you. “You can sign up as a team of four at the race or you can sign up as an individual. This is our beer mile. It’s a relay style, so you consume beer at every quarter mile. It’s really fun to watch and really fun to be involved with,” said Rosetti.

The half-marathon kicks off on Sunday, December 9th at Jones Park at 7 a.m. as marathon runners take off at the same time further west at Henderson Point in Pass Christian. “The eastbound lanes on Highway 90, there will be some more congestion than usual. Of course our runners will be running east from Pass Christian to Gulfport. From 6 am to noon on Sunday, December 9th, just expect for some changes.”

You’re also welcome to come cheer on the runners anywhere along the running route on Highway 90 or you can encourage runners at MGM Park in Biloxi as they make the last stride toward the finish line and join them afterwards for the Finish Fest. “This year, we’re going to welcome Des Linden. She is the first American female to win the Boston Marathon since 1985,” said Rosetti.
