North Woolmarket Middle School Cruisin’ with the Classics

The grounds of North Woolmarket Middle School looked like the scene of a time travel movie today as elementary and middle school students put their spin on some classic cars and hot rods today.

Some North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School students danced like there was no tomorrow while others leisurely strolled back in time at the school’s classic car show Friday morning. A sea of poodle skirts, horn-rimmed glasses and bobby socks, this real life Cruisin’ history lesson wasn’t the first time around the block for some students, like fifth grader Abigail Martino, who was decked to the nines as a pink lady. “Today, we’re having Cruisin’ the Coast Day where you can dress up as your favorite person from the old times and we’re all voting for cars.”

A cherry red 1969 Chevy Corvette caught fifth grader Charlaina Anderson’s eye and was her top pick. “The old cars, they were better. My grandmother used to ride in old Chevrolet’s and everything. The new cars, I like them, but the old cars are just better.”

Some students dressed in their oldies best and even issued tickets. “You just give tickets for your favorite car, but every one of them was my favorite car, especially the yellow ones over there.”

Students voted on their two favorite cars and as the teachers peeled the students away  from the show for the final tally, they walked away with another important life lesson: that time truly does fly.
