Watch for bird eggs on the beaches
As spring breakers make their way to the Gulf Coast, the Pascagoula River Audubon Center urges Coast visitors to keep an eye out for our avian friends.
Our least terns here on the Gulf Coast lay eggs in the sands along the water. If you come across a small pocket of eggs, be sure to stay clear and don’t try to move them.
The Audubon Center also recommends not feeding birds any human food and to put all your trash in the receptacles found near the piers. Audubon Center Education Manager Katie Fetzer said, “Now is the beginning of the nesting season, so we have a variety of birds that begin their nesting cycle on the beaches — and the way they make their nests is they just make a little scrape, they’re hard to see. So, if you see any blocked off areas, be respectful and don’t go into those areas.”
The Audubon Center is having a native plant sale tomorrow morning and keeping native plants is nutritious and valuable for Mississippi birds.
