Former DMR chief sentenced today

Bill Walker will spend time behind bars for not paying restitution payments as part of his supervised release terms.

The former DMR chief was sentenced today and ordered to refinance his home in Ocean Springs in order to keep up with his $5,000 monthly payments.

Walker asked at a February hearing that the payments be lowered, but Judge Keith Starrett refused, saying Walker and his wife have a combined income of $190,000 a year and should cut expenses.

Starrett saw no evidence at the latest hearing in September that the Walkers were curbing those expenses.

Walker has been behind bars since September 19th for “willful and obstinate failure” to make the restitution payments in the public corruption case.
