Pass Christian man accused of shooting stepfather during dispute

A Pass Christian man is accused of shooting his stepfather during a fight between his parents at their Waveland home, then fled, leading a police chase through the county on Sunday night.

Jabriel Raymond Alexander-Grace, 19, is accused of shooting his stepfather, Darrell Johnson, after his stepfather and mother got into an argument and Alexander-Grace confronted the man with a gun and shot him.

Alexander-Grace has been charged with two felonies: aggravated assault-domestic violence and failure to yield when an officer signals. He also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, reckless driving and speeding. Bond has not yet been set pending an initial appearance.

Police Chief Mike Prendergast said officers were called to a home on Olivari Street about 7:18 p.m. in regard to a shooting. Witnesses described a gray vehicle that left the home and detectives started searching.

Sgt. Josh Stockstill found the suspect’s vehicle near Old Spanish Trail and McLaurin Street, but the driver wouldn’t stop and fled toward Bay St. Louis, where those officers joined the chase.

The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle hit a fence on St. Francis Street in Bay St. Louis. The suspect ran into a nearby home, but was caught when he tried to leave through the back door.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Waveland Police Department at 228-467-3669.
