Vote is in on the Bay Waveland School District bond issue
The unofficial count is in for the $37.9 million Bay-Waveland School District bond initiative.
The total unofficial count is 760 votes for the bond and 1,473 against. Voters are not willing to pay extra in property tax to fund the bond.
The bond would have covered 16 different projects in various parts of the district, including Bay High classroom wings, significant repairs and upgrades, as well as the addition of pre-K classrooms.
Bay High School Principal Dr. Amy Necaise said, “It’ll be emotional either way. We’ll be emotionally celebrating and crying or we’ll be emotionally upset and a little bit downtrodden and crying, but either way, it’s all for our kids.”
Bay St. Louis resident Ron Thorp said, “I thank the citizens of Bay St. Louis and Waveland for going forth and going to the polls and defeating this in big numbers. We did not need to $37 million, which is the maximum amount of money that they could have in a school bond.”
