Saucier house fire victim dies
Today, the Harrison County Fire Chief confirmed the death of a woman involved in an early Tuesday morning house fire in Saucier.
“I kept hearing a popping noise in the attic. It woke me up and I started scrambling to get myself and Christine out of that house.” Michael Garrett received a frightening 4 a.m. wake-up call Tuesday morning as flames filled his nine-year home. “I shook Christine and told her we gotta get out of here. The smoke started building.”
Christine MacIssac suffered third-degree burns through nearly 30 percent of her body including the soles of her feet. Although Garrett managed to pull her out of the flames, her organs shut down a day later due to the trauma of the fire. “I was the one that drug her out of that burning house and she kept saying ‘let go of my arm. You’re peeling my skin off.’ That was a rough one.”
The Harrison County Fire Department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation and they have pronounced the house a complete loss. “I lost my woman for the last ten years. I don’t have a home to lay my head down,” said Garrett.
Now, a family friend has started a GoFundMe account in hopes of helping Garrett pay for funeral costs and to help him get back on his feet. If you would like to help, you can visit the GoFundMe page here.
