SoSo Foundation Fish Fry

The SoSo Strong Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation held their second annual fish fry on Saturday with all proceeds going straight to support children with rare brain cancers.

The fish were hand breaded and hearts were heavy during this fundraiser. The SoSo Foundation launched on May 17th this year and it is near and dear to all of those attended.

The idea for the foundation came after Sophia Myers was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare form of brain cancer. She later passed away in October.

Many volunteers came out to help cook the fish and help with the silent auction.

Sophia’s parents’ hearts are still heavy, but they are glad to be doing something that can help a family in need just like they were. Sophia’s mother, Angel Myers-McIlrath said, “This is the only thing we can do now for Sophia and this is really more than Sophia. There are so many children with DIPG and other rare brain cancers. We have to do something for them and we are going to keep doing it until there’s a cure.”

Sophia’s father, Joshua Myers, said, “People don’t know about this, I mean we didn’t know about it. We were aware that other kids had cancers in Ocean Springs, but we didn’t know what type.”

The SoSo Foundation hopes to hold many more fundraising events for this worthy cause in the future.
