Son charged in school counselor’s death in Stone County
The investigation continues into the death of a Hattiesburg High School guidance counselor who was found dead in her home last Wednesday after allegedly being decapitated by her own son.
Sherry Johnson’s body was found after deputies went to her house on Johnson Road in response to a welfare check request. Once authorities checked the house they found remains of her body in the backyard.
Full autopsy results are pending, but she died of blunt force trauma to her head. Evidence indicates she had been dead two or three days before deputies found her remains.
News 25 spoke to Captain Ray Boggs with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department who updates us on the case. “We are still checking to make sure that there are no other parties involved. The investigation is still ongoing. We ask that you pray for the family because it’s one of those crimes that touches a small community like ours.”
Johnson’s 29-year-old son, Terrell Johnson, is in custody and charged with first-degree murder.
