Tampa Students Visit Coast to Clean Up Marine Debris
Tuesday, students were cleaning up marine debris on the Coast before heading over to the Pascagoula River to pull out invasive species. While students are visiting, they are also learning about the bird populations on the Coast and how they can work to restore their natural habitat.
Briana Mansour, a student at the University of Tampa, says, “We’ve learned a lot. It’s crazy how a single incident of trash on the ground can make such a large impact. With Katrina hit and the oil spill, we’re still seeing effects from it. So it’s great that there’s so many organizations around here that are still working hard.”
Students will continue working with the Pascagoula Audubon Society for the rest of the week. The organization is always looking for volunteers if you are interested.
