Action movie ‘Hard Matter’ being filmed on the Coast
Today, a famous actor could be seen around Gulfport as his new film ‘Hard Matter’ is being shot all along the Gulf Coast.
If any of our unaware residents watch ‘Hard Matter’ when it comes out, they might find the locations on screen oddly familiar — like 24th Avenue, transformed into a post-apocalyptic battlefield.
The mayor’s office put out a statement, warning the unassuming public they might hear the staccato rattle of gunshots near city hall, but luckily, it’s all make-believe.
The film stars Harvey Keitel, who’s famous for his work with Quentin Tarantino in his movies “Pulp Fiction,” “Reservoir Dogs,” and a few others.
Line producer Richard Salvatore gave News 25 a breakdown of what they’re shooting today. “So, in one scene I put a gun to my head, and I click and I die. And a couple of guys shoot each other, some other people get shot. It’s all fake weapons, no live ammunition or anything like that.”
Jase Payne, with the City of Gulfport, told us what makes this little slice of the Coast appealing for filmmakers. “We have a beautiful historic downtown area, we’ve got the beach, we have different areas of the city. You know, ‘Precious Cargo’ with Bruce Willis shot at the port a couple of years back. So, really having a mix of scenery.”
The film industry is great for municipalities — it provides jobs, cast and crew members shop locally, and it puts us on the map for future productions. “We have about 15 local actors in the movie playing various parts, and another 500 in extras that are playing detainees, prisoners, policemen.”
No word yet on when we can watch the film — but WXXV will keep you posted.
