Improved Moss Point baseball fields
Businesses and organizations along the Coast pitch in to help revamp baseball fields in the Moss Point area. Last year was the first year the city did not offer little league baseball. A group of concerned residents got together and formed the new Cal Ripken Baseball League in hopes to provide a positive outlet for youth in the area. The group repainted six dugouts, remodeled a concession stand, and revamped several fields at the Frederick Street Ballpark. Organizations like the Biloxi Shuckers and Pascagoula Turf Masters are donating time, equipment, money and more to help keep this vision alive. Cal Ripken Baseball League Treasurer Chuck Redmond said, “The only thing we want to change is the perception of this area. These kids deserve this out here and our goal is to have as many kids as we can get. We’ve already registered two kids with autism. We want to make this a fun instructional league for everyone involved and we hope this thing just takes off from here.” Registration is only $30 and the league is open to boys and girls ages five to 12.
