NCAA Baseball: Southern Miss vs. Northern Alabama

Year after year, one of the nation’s most consistent college baseball programs is Southern Miss, now coming off its fifth consecutive 40-win season.

The road to six straight starts on Opening Day against a team that lost 40 games in 2021.

USM wins 8-1, make that 21 wins in USM’s last 22 opening series games dating back to 2015.  Number one Southern Miss baseball fan Ben Waddle said, “Like I said, Opening Day is a national holiday here in Hattiesburg. I kind of wish other schools could experience an Opening Day. I don’t know if other schools in the state have an Opening Day. But I know ours is pretty special. I know a lot of people take off work early to come out here. It is a little cold out here. It always is cold on Opening Day, but it is fun pushing these runs across home plate. Some might call it Pusha Pete out here. But no, we’re all excited to be back, especially the last time in Conference USA.”

Southern Miss concludes its series with Northern Alabama at 2 p.m. tomorrow for game two and 1 p.m. Sunday for game three.
