Hosemann breaks down state budget cut

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann spent a few minutes breaking down the most recent budget cut to the state.
The third round of spending cuts brings the grand total to $151 million since the budget year started in July. Governor Phil Bryant announced he is moving $7 million out of the state’s rainy day fund, saying without that cuts would be larger.
Hosemann tells News 25 he expects at least one more cut before the end of the year. “We would have about a million dollars cut out of our budget, which is about $15 million a year. As you may know, we cut our budget pretty much every year anyway. So, we’re running pretty lean and mean and the state, while it is expanding road-wise, is struggling here in its collections, particularly on corporate and income.”
Student financial aid and schools for the blind and deaf are exempt from the new cuts. Also exempt are the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Child Protective Services, and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
