UPDATE: Moss Point standoff ends after suspect surrenders to authorities

MOSS POINT, Miss. (WXXV)- The suspect in an hours-long standoff at a Moss Point home Friday has been identified

Forty-four-year-old Marquis Odom was arrested following a domestic violence incident after the standoff, which came to an end after Odom surrendered to authorities around noon Friday.

The incident began at 5:40 a.m. when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a juvenile reporting an active domestic violence incident at a home on Wisteria Drive in Escatawpa.

The involved parties fled the scene prior to the arrival of responding officers, which led to a BOLO for the parties.

At 6:08 a.m., the Moss Point Police Department received a call reporting an ongoing domestic violence dispute involving the same parties on Howze Street in Moss Point.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Odom, who was armed. He fled inside the home and refused to exit, which started the standoff.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Unit and crisis negotiators responded to assist at the scene, and Odom surrendered after six hours of negotiations.

Magnolia Middle School, Moss Point Hight School, and the school district’s CTE and ALC facilities were placed on lockdown as a precaution during the standoff. 

This incident remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
