Spring Severe Weather Preparedness Week

Governor Phil Bryant declared February 20th through the 24th Mississippi Spring Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Each day tackles a destructive weather we have seen here in South Mississippi. This includes thunderstorms, hail, lightning, and tornadoes.
Also make sure you know the difference between watches and warnings and have access to alerts on your phone or radio.
Members of emergency management agencies say it is better to be prepared than pick up the pieces after severe weather hits. Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “When those thunderstorms develop in the proximity we are to the Mississippi Sound to the Gulf of Mexico, that warm moist air comes in and we know that we can see very heavy thunderstorms drop a heavy amount of rain in a short period of time.”
Officials encourage schools, businesses, and homeowners to participate in the statewide tornado drill at 9:15 Wednesday morning.
