Elderly Man Injured in Woods Fire in Moss Point
An elderly man was air-lifted to an Alabama hospital after a Moss Point fire left him with severe burns to his arms and legs.
Firefighters responded to a widespread blaze in a wooded area near Highway 63 and Elder Ferry Road around 1:30 this afternoon.
As officials worked to contain the blaze, they located an 83-year-old man lying in the woods with life-threatening injuries. He was instantly air-lifted to the burn center in Mobile.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Moss Point Fire Chief Tommy Posey said,” He does own the property so we’re assuming maybe he was there burning some of it or something, but we’re going to try and find the information out. State fire marshals assisted in the investigation so hopefully by tomorrow afternoon we should have more information.”
The fire covered several hundred acres of land. No one else was injured and no property in the surrounding area was damaged.
