Ocean Springs Moves Forward with Dyslexic School

The City of Ocean Springs moves forward in the process to bring a school tailored for students with dyslexia to the downtown area.
City aldermen voted to authorize a lease agreement between the city and the Dynamic Dyslexia Design School, also known as the 3D School.
The one of a kind program only has one school in the Petal area, but the new lease would create a space for learning right here along the Gulf Coast. The 3D Program would fill five classrooms inside the Taconi building on Ward Street which sits right behind the Mary C. Museum, a space that’s been vacant since May 2012.
If the lease is approved, the new Gulf Coast location would serve families from New Orleans to Mobile.
Mayor Connie Moran believes the downtown space is a prime location because of all the great programs in the surrounding area. “As a mother of a special needs child, who has autism, I fully understand the difficulties of special needs children, learning disabilities, dyslexia. This particular school is concentrated on dyslexia, but they already have in Petal quite a few Coast families that drive every day to and from Petal to bring their children to the school.”
City officials plan to vote on the lease agreement during the next board meeting. The 3D School hopes to lease the space by July 1st.
Officials with the 3D school say they plan to stay in the Ocean Springs location for about two to three years before building a more permanent school at land donated at Tradition on Mississippi 67.
