Stone County School District enhancing safety measurements at school events

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Stone County schools are adding a new layer of security at campus and athletic events.

The district is implementing the Opengate Weapons Detection System, made possible through grant funding.

Because the technology is new to the district and community, visitors should expect a slightly different entry process and allow extra time when arriving to events.

The system will initially be used at the new high school and athletic facilities, but it will also be used at schools and school events across the district as needed.

The additional security measure is designed to help keep students, staff, athletes, and visitors safe.
