Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy resigns after domestic violence arrest

A Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy has resigned after an arrest on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence by simple assault.

According to our media partner the Sun Herald, Deputy Colin Freeman, 38, of Perkinston submitted a resignation letter last week after his arrest for allegedly assaulting a live-in girlfriend in a domestic violence case.

On August 8th, deputies responded to a 911 call shortly before 10 p.m. at the home Freeman shared at the time with the victim.

Police reports say the victim told deputies the assault happened when a drunk Freeman got mad at her because he thought she was cheating on him.

Deputies say they attempted to get his side of the story, but he became irate and refused to talk.

Ultimately it took three deputies to wrestle Freeman to the ground to get him into handcuffs.

Freeman was booked at the Hancock County Jail and released on a $500 signature bond.

He has a December 7th trial date in Hancock County Justice Court.
