Thanksgiving Shopping Rush
Grocery stores across the Coast have been busy all week as people stock up on Thanksgiving items.
Today shoppers at Jerry Lee’s Grocery in Pascagoula scrambled for turkeys, ham, and all the homemade fixings the deli has to offer.
Some shoppers were picking up ready-made meals, others getting regular groceries at a less than convenient time, but most picking up the holiday essentials.
Store managers say they started prepping for this day weeks ago to ensure they had enough of that homemade dressing and giblet gravy to go around. Deli Assistant Manager Becky King said, “Today’s one of the busiest days before Thanksgiving. We’ve probably made about 500 gallons of dressing, sold about 500 gallons of dressing and so as you see the girls are still working, still doing turkeys. Everybody’s picking up their orders, getting ready for tomorrow.”
Shopper Meagan Koon said, “I’m actually here getting some stuff for a sweet potato casserole that we’re going to do. We’re going to plan on just doing the whole nine yards, turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole and go for the dessert and just have a good old time.”
Shopper Linda Valentine said, “Traditional Thanksgiving dinner, turkey and dressing, roast and all the trimmings.”
Store managers say they can expect an even bigger crowd tomorrow as people rush to pick up those last minute or forgotten items.
