Smoke detectors save six people during fire in Harrison County
Six Harrison County residents are safe after escaping a fire inside a mobile home early this morning, thanks to their smoke detectors.
Harrison County Fire Service and Saucier Fire rushed to a fire on Palmer Creek Drive around 2:30 a.m. Fire officials tell News 25 an interior fire broke out inside a trailer. Six people woke up when smoke detectors went off inside the mobile home and they were able to escape.
Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan says the fire was caused by a malfunctioning heating unit. He says weather causes heaters to break more often. “Maintenance is not just at the beginning of the season. Maintenance is all year long. During the event, during the cold snap, just to double check and make sure that there’s not any lint build up inside of it or there’s things being stacked around inside that can cause a fire, catch fire, wiring that are not frayed, not been pinched.”
A couple residents were treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene of the fire.
