Seabees And Kittens Make Purr-Fect Friends

Some Seabees made purr-fect friends with some buddies from the Humane Society Of South Mississippi today. It’s part of a program called “Pause For Paws” bringing pets from the shelter to play with single sailors at the liberty center on base once every two months. Usually the humane society brings dogs for the sailors but this is the first time they got to play with kittens! These sailors say it’s a nice stress reliever, especially during the holidays when many of them are missing home.

“Not all of them get to go home for the holidays so this is a good way to kind of make them feel like they’re not alone. We do care about them. They cannot have pets in the barracks so it’s a good way for those who miss their kittens or puppies at home to have that connection again with their furry friend that they miss.”
– Sheila Ayala Liberty Coordinator

For Single Sailors Program And not only do these pets from the Humane Society come on base to play, once a month a group of Seabees donate their time volunteering at the animal shelter as well.
