Search is on for new Bay St. Louis Police Chief

After the recent loss of Bay St. Louis Police Chief Mike De Nardo, the city is searching for a candidate to fill the vacant position.
Police Chief Mike De Nardo shot himself right outside the Bay St. Louis Police Department after learning he was being suspended over a month ago.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department stepped in to help the city’s police team continue operations. Tonight, city and Hancock County officials came together for a meeting to discuss where the police department stands.
Mayor Les Fillingame tells News 25 that the loss of De Nardo was very tragic, but it hasn’t left the police department broken. “I don’t want to see a person removed from the streets of Bay St. Louis or paid less than they’re being paid right now to do it. I’m very proud of the way our guys are equipped. I’m proud of the way they managed. They’re very professional and we don’t want to have anything that would make a change in the way we serve the people of Bay St. Louis.”
The mayor says the sheriff’s department and Bay St. Louis police have successfully collaborated with one another.
The city is in the process of screening applicants and setting up interviews for a new police chief. Mayor Fillingame says they should have a decision come early November.
