Movie Goers React to Sony Pulling Premier of The Interview
Across the nation, movie theaters are pulling the film The Interview after an anonymous organization threatened theaters who run it. If your Christmas plans included seeing the release of The Interview, starring James Franco and Seth Rogan, you’ll have to look elsewhere, as Cinemark 16 has officially decided to drop the movie from its schedule and website listings.
Wednesday afternoon, Sony officially decided to cancel the December 25th release of the movie. This comes after Sony Pictures Entertainment was hacked. Confidential emails and personal information about employees was released. The hackers then threated any theater that screens The Interview with a 9/11 type terrorist attack. The hackers are calling themselves guardians of peace and are against the comedy’s plot, which is to kill North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un.
After the threat, Sony said it will allow theaters to pull the movie. Regal Cinemas, AMC, and Cinemark did just that. The theater companies have not said whether they will bring the movie back if the hacker situation is resolved.
