St. Martin returns to the postseason

The St. Martin football program has come painfully close to ending its post-season drought in recent years and this time the Yellow Jackets were finally on the right end of the tie-breakers.
But they did need some help after losing to D’Iberville in Friday’s regular season finale, locking up the number four seed by virtue of owning the head-to-head over Biloxi.
St. Martin ends the 13 year playoff absence with an unforgiving welcome back present: a first round playoff matchup against undefeated Pearl.
Head Coach Eddie Wayne Whitehead says there was no backing in to the postseason with his team having won the games it needed to win. “It’s big. The kids have to hear it, we read it in the papers, in the news so it’s a big deal. So for them to get that done, and we’ve got a lot of kids coming back so that’s big. And they want to use that as a stepping stone for the future, and hopefully it is a building block.”
St. Martin lineman Brandon Cunningham said, “I feel like I have accomplished something cause like since I was younger I just wanted to be a part of that means something. And now that my shoes are getting filled up, like I said I’m committed to Miami and my shoes are getting filled up as I grow, and so for me to say that I had St. Martin on my back when we made it to the playoffs and when we’re fixing to win next year and the championship overall, I feel like that it’s a big accomplishment for me.”
The Yellow Jackets will take on the Pirates in Pearl at 7 p.m. on Friday.
