Moss Point Neighborhood to Get Major Drainage Renovation
Residents tell News 25 that at least twice a year, heavy rain storms can put up to 14 inches of standing water inside their homes, costing them thousands of dollars in repairs. According to the city, the drainage in the subdivision is insufficient and needs a major upgrade. A $1.4 million contract has been awarded to Lane Construction to install larger pipe and add additional storm drains. Moss Point’s Mayor, Billy Broomfield, believes the project will put an end to the flooding and help the residents.
Broomfield says, “It caused them to lose furniture, it caused them to have to prop furniture up, it caused them to have to be rescued by our fire department because their home was being inundated with water, and so we’re just grateful that we’re at a point now where that will be a thing of the past for the residents of that area.”
The ground breaking for the project will be Tuesday, December 2nd, and will be completed in late August of 2015.
