Adrian Peterson with something to prove vs. Minnesota Vikings
As if trying to win their first regular season opener since 2013 wasn’t enough, the New Orleans Saints have some extra motivation leading up to Monday’s game versus the Minnesota Vikings.
Star running back Adrian Peterson signed with the Saints during the offseason after spending the first ten years of his career with the Vikings. But as he climbs deeper into his 30s, coming off a season ending knee injury, there appears to be some doubt as to whether or not he’ll still be the same player.
Peterson’s new right tackle, Zach Strief, was quick to come to his defense earlier this week. “As much as you’d want to downplay it and at the end of the day for us it’s, we’re trying to win a game. We’re not trying to get AD redemption, and yet for him it’s certainly a big game. And I think having built a relationship with him and kind of taking him into our family I think yeah, we want to get him in some space and let him show what he can do and I think he feels that way. And at the same time I think he’s going to feel that way the next week, too. I think it’s more than just a Minnesota thing. I think it’s kind of being written off by people kind of league wide.”
Peterson played a full season in 2015, but took the field in just four games combined in 2014 and 2016. He was the NFL’s comeback player of the year in 2012.
