City of Waveland Fire Department receives new fire truck

WAVELAND, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Waveland is adding a new piece of equipment to its fire department fleet.

The city received its first new fire truck since 2006, marking a major upgrade for the department.

The new truck was delivered to the main fire station on Highway 90, where firefighters will have an opportunity to put the new equipment to use.

The addition is expected to help support the department’s efforts to respond to emergencies and serve the Waveland community. Mayor Jay Trapani said, “It’s a pretty exciting day for Waveland and for the firefighters. We ordered this truck about four years ago and it finally arrived this just gives us another piece of equipment to go out there and protect the public. We have another truck that’s supposed to be coming in November and we have two fire stations here so one will be here at Highway 90 and the other will be at the other station on Coleman Avenue. Like any first responder organization, retention is a big thing. So, this will help us to retain our existing fire fighters that we have. When you have new equipment people want to stay and use it.”

Fire Chief Tommy Carver Jr. said, “So this truck, it’s been quite a journey to get here. This truck journey started right after coming out of Covid and it took a long time to get people back to work, we couldn’t get parts for these trucks. So, it took it little bit longer than what it should have but we’re happy it’s here and grateful, it’s a step forward in the right direction for our guys and our citizens.”
