MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV) — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Jackson Police Department that occurred Friday on Raymond Road.

According to MBI, a Jackson police officer was in the 1000 block of Raymond Road on Sept. 18 when he reportedly heard multiple gunshots and observed an individual running with a weapon.

Investigators said the officer gave verbal commands for the individual to drop the weapon. Authorities say the officer and the suspect then exchanged gunfire.

The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody. No information has been released regarding the officer’s condition.MBI said it is continuing to assess the incident and gather evidence. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be provided to the local District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review.

Officials noted that the information released is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.
