Appeals court upholds Harrison County man’s murder conviction

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence of a man convicted in a 2022 Harrison County killing.
John William Anderson was convicted of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting death of Jeneathon Lewis at the Country Kwik Stop near Highway 53 and County Farm Road that October.
Anderson appealed, arguing investigators violated his rights when they obtained real-time location information from his cell phone provider without a warrant.
The appeals court ruled the warrantless search was justified by exigent circumstances, citing the public shooting, an armed suspect still at large, and concerns over public safety.
