The Crab Trap stays at St. Stanislaus with a 42-7 win over Bay High

Our Ball Heating and Air Game Ball of the Week matchup takes us to the 30th Battle of the Crab Trap! The St. Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws hosted their friendly foes from Bay High, and the Rock-A-Chaws wasted little time making their mark.

Quarterback Max Bernard helped get the St. Stanislaus offense rolling, finding Lex Rhodes for a first down to move the chains. Bay High’s Javien Thompson briefly slowed the momentum by getting a hand on a pass to break it up. But the Rock-A-Chaws answered on the very next play. Bernard dropped back, scanned the field and launched a deep pass into the back of the end zone, where junior wide receiver Liam Hayes went up and came down with the touchdown. The extra point was good, giving St. Stanislaus a 7-0 lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter.

Bay High tried to respond, but Rhodes came up with a huge play on defense. Benton Ladner sent a pass downfield, but Rhodes made an impressive over-the-shoulder grab for the interception. Rhodes continued to make an impact on offense, too, as Bernard connected with him on a dart for another Rock-A-Chaw first down.

Bernard then showed off his ability with his legs, rolling out of the pocket and scrambling deep into the Rock-A-Chaw red zone. He capped the drive with a jump pass into the middle of the field, finding Brick Combretta wide open for another St. Stanislaus touchdown. The Rock-A-Chaws led 14-0 with just seconds remaining in the first quarter and continued to pull away from there.

St. Stanislaus ultimately cruised to a 42-7 victory over Bay High, securing the Battle of the Bay and this week’s WXXV Game Ball of the Week!
