Dangerous Heat
May feel nice on this 90 degree day but do you know signs of heat exhaustion? AMR here on the gulf coast already responded to 22 heat emergencies in 2016 and 6 alone this month. While South Mississippi is no stranger to high temperatures, officials say some residents they feel they can beat the heat. But with the heat index at 105 degrees in the Biloxi area the heat is hard to avoid. AMR officials tell News 25 if you feel aches or cramps in any of your muscles, it is time to call 911. you need to move that individual into a cooler place, get their clothes off of them, help them cool off, not rapidly don’t pour a bucket of ice on them or anything like that, take some cool rags some ice packs put them in the arm pits, their groin area, around their necks because you want to cool them off slowly and get them the care that they need and start re-hydrating them, but if you have someone who’s unconscious, if they’re nauseated or vomiting you don’t want to give them anything to drink with that because you can cause more problems with that. The three stages to heat emergencies are heat exhaustion heat cramps, and heat stroke.
