25 Teams in 25 Days: Moss Point Tigers
The Moss Point Tigers are looking to build something new this season. After winning just two games last year, the Tigers have spent the offseason focused on getting better both physically and mentally. From working in the weight room to putting in the work on the field, Moss Point says the goal is to develop a stronger team culture and create a standard for success.
“For us this is year two for us. For me the mindset is getting better everyday. Last year we won two games… We competed in a few games where we should have brought home a win. So our whole thing right now is finishing, we want to make sure we finish in everything that we do, we want to give relentless effort in everything that we do. So we just want to make sure that we’re doing better than what we did last year. Now our expectations for ourselves have gotten much higher. We just try to get bigger, stronger, and faster… And tough. We feel like our toughness can win us ball games this year. Our football I-Q has grown so much from when I got here to now. So right now our toughness and physicality I think is going to be one of the keys to winning games this year for sure,” Head Coach Derrick Jenkins said.
The Tigers will also look to their returning players to provide leadership and help set the tone for a younger group. Moss Point knows it will take everyone buying in and the Tigers believe their offseason work has helped bring the team closer together.
“We had so much returning from last year… So we are going to be very very experienced on defense, those guys know scheme they are physical. They like running around and they like what comes with playing defense. So just a year in the system getting to learn and we did pretty good last year in it so hopefully we take a bigger step than what we did last year. Landon Cato at linebacker, he’s a leader for us, he’s our big time guy, he’s probably the best player we have on the team. Aiden Evan is our quarterback number three, it’s his first year staring but he looks like… He’s done it for a long time,” Jenkins said.
“Just excited to win, all of the work that we put in this summer… I mean we got to win with all the work we put in. We’re just really excited for this first game against Goula and we’re just gonna show what we been working on all summer. Biggest thing we’ve been working on is our explosiveness, our strength and conditioning coach he’s been working us real hard and we’re real discipline so that’s going to give us the upper hand to win more games. If we’re playing from behind, we’re not going to lay our heads down we’re just gonna keep doing what we got to do to change that scoreboard around,” senior quarterback Aiden Evans said.
“I’m really excited for this season, we been working hard this year… Offseason we’ve been working hard, and this summer we’ve been working hard in the summer too so I’m just ready to see what we can do on the field now. During games no matter if we’re down or no matter the score we need to give the same effort and just try hard the whole game no matter what the score is. I’m going to bring a lot of energy to the field, they going to see me just watch nine you’re going to see me,” senior linebacker Landon Cato said.
With a new season comes a clean slate and moss point is ready for the opportunity. The Tigers know the results will come down to what they do when the lights come on.
“Moss Point tiger land we’re going to have a more polished product for sure, we’re going to be exciting on offense this year, we’re going to be hard-nosed on defense this year… We’re going to be a very disciplined team this year. So those guys would love to see the stands packed for every home game this year that we have and they just wanna come out here and represent y’all well,” Jenkins said.
“Just come out… We got four home games, so just come out and support us. Just see what we can do,” Cato said.
The Moss Point Tigers will open the 2026 season on Friday August 28th, when they hit the road against Pascagoula.
