MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Byhalia that left two people dead
BYHALIA, Miss. (WXXV) – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Byhalia Police Department and the DeSoto County S.W.A.T. team that left two people dead.
According to MBI, officers responded to a call in the area of Church Station Parkway in Byhalia after a female occupant of a residence reported that another female occupant had been shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, investigators said the subject began firing at responding officers. Authorities then requested assistance from the DeSoto County S.W.A.T. team.
MBI said that after S.W.A.T. officers arrived, the subject continued firing at law enforcement personnel. During the encounter, an officer discharged a weapon, striking the subject.
The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators also discovered another occupant of the residence deceased inside the home.
No law enforcement officers suffered serious physical injuries during the incident, according to MBI.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is gathering evidence and assessing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review.
