Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann creates select committee on cybersecurity

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann has created a select committee in the state Senate to discuss cybersecurity matters.

Specifically, the committee will focus on the security of state and local government information systems across the state, as well as reviewing the penalties for those who commit cybercrimes in Mississippi.

In announcing the move, Hosemann says the state has a responsibility to ensure that laws keep pace with evolving threats.

Two South Mississippi senators will serve on the committee: Jackson County’s Jeremy England and Harrison County’s Scott Delano.

The committee will hold hearings this fall and develop recommendations for laws during the 2027 legislative session.
