Dangerous heat continues on Wednesday

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Another hot day is on tap for South Mississippi on Wednesday before a more active weather pattern returns later this week.

Tonight will stay mostly clear and warm, with lows only falling to around 79 degrees.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and hot, with afternoon highs reaching around 99 degrees. When you factor in the humidity, it’ll feel more like 115 degrees during the hottest part of the day. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible late in the afternoon, but most places will stay dry.

The pattern begins to change on Thursday as moisture increases across the Gulf Coast. Highs will ease back into the lower to middle 90s, while scattered showers and thunderstorms become more widespread during the afternoon and evening.

That unsettled weather continues through the weekend and into early next week. Daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, helping knock temperatures back into the upper 80s to lower 90s.

While the increased rain will provide some relief from the extreme heat, it won’t be a washout. There will still be plenty of dry time each day, so keep an eye on the radar if you have outdoor plans.

Until the rain arrives, heat safety remains the top concern. Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
