Harrison County Board of Supervisors reconvened Friday for follow up emergency meeting

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)-The Harrison County Board of Supervisors reconvened Friday for a follow up emergency meeting at the Harrison County Courthouse.

Supervisors received an update on Tropical Storm Bertha. The board also approved a professional services contract with the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, effective July 16.

In other business, supervisors considered a change order for improvements to Harrison County service facility at the Harrison County Fairgrounds and approved a memorandum of understanding allowing opioid settlement funds to support services at the Harrison County Diversion Center. District One Supervisor Dan Cuevas said, “In today’s meeting we closed out the Tropical Storm Bertha documentation that we needed, that we implemented on Monday. We came back today to close that out luckily there was no real bad weather from that. Second, we completed the MOU for the opioid grant that’s helped fund our diversion center. Also, we hired Troy Peterson as our interim county administrator and we completed those documents as well. We’re in our budget season right now, that’s a very important part of what we do. Making sure we’re taking care of our employees when it comes to raises and we’re also being responsible with the tax dollars that we’re supposed to be responsible for and allocating and so right now will be a very busy season during that time for budget which is very important to us to make sure we’re not only doing what we need to do today but also sets us up for the future and also for our children.”
