City of Biloxi Discuss “to-go cup” Districts

City leaders say they want the public to know enforcing the “to-go cup” law could strengthen Biloxi as a tourist destination.
The city unveiled leisure and recreation districts where people would be free to carry open alcohol in cups.
The state of Mississippi approved a law allowing for more relaxed beverage control regulations for certain cities with entertainment districts.
Biloxi city officials tell News 25 as long as people stay in the district area, they would be able to walk from restaurant to restaurant with beverages. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “We know that we’re a tourism oriented city here in Biloxi and we think a law like this is going to help us capitalize on our reputation. We’re not looking to create Bourbon Street here, but what we are doing is relaxing things a little bit so that people can enjoy their entire experience here.”
Next week the Biloxi City Council will vote on whether to move forward with the “to-go cup” law and identify the districts.
