Christie Meeks reflects on her time as PRCC’s Head Softball Coach

A historic chapter in Pearl River softball is coming to a close as longtime head coach Christie Meeks takes the next step in her career.
But after seven remarkable seasons leading the Wildcats, the legacy she’s built will continue to leave its mark. I caught up with Coach Meeks as she reflected on her unforgettable journey at Pearl River.
“First of all the community and the people. The people make the place. Pearl River is an unbelievable place because of those people,” Christie Meeks said. “It starts at the top with Dr. Breerwood. I say this all the time but he leads it and then Dr. Long and Coach Avalon and Shanae and Oney and I could go on and on and on about how amazing these people have been and how much of a family they’ve brought us in and loved on our kids. The community has just loved on us, and I’m so grateful to have had these seven years and the girls. Having an opportunity to coach the girls we’ve been able to have at Pearl River and what they’ve been able to do and them trusting me through that process. This place is always going to be a part of my heart. ”

Meeks wraps up her seven-year run at Pearl River on the highest note possible, leading the Wildcats to the program’s first-ever NJCAA National Championship. She says that title was the culmination of years of hard work from every team that helped build the program.

“I’m grateful for that. These freshman and sophomores, this National Championship team, but all the teams that came before that,” said Meeks. “You leave a legacy and we talk about leaving a legacy and having your dash. The little small dash between the year you were born and the year you pass away. I think being able to have that kind of legacy and what they have left is a huge thing and is what I get to leave. That small bit that God has allowed me to be here and be apart of so many lives and meet so many amazing people and then get to see them as the grow up.”

While leaving Pearl River hasn’t been easy, Meeks says she’s excited for the opportunity to return home and join the coaching staff at South Alabama.

“It is our home. That’s where we’re from. I grew up playing where South Alabama is the top of the top and it’s still the top of the top, and so to be able to have the opportunity to learn from Coach Clark and her whole staff and then give back to the community. I could not be more grateful for this opportunity and for our family to be close. To be five minutes away from my sister and Eric’s mom and dad, Mimi and Pawpaw, and just those types of things, so we’re really blessed to have that opportunity and to be at a place that portrays nothing but greatness.”
greatness she leaves and greatness she’ll be joining.
Congratulations to Coach Meeks on an outstanding Wildcats career, and best of luck as she begins her next chapter with the South Alabama Jaguars!
