Firefighters battle flames in high heat in Harrison County

Firefighters battled flames at a home in Harrison County this morning under intense heat.
Multiple agencies responded around 7:45 to heavy flames spewing out of the two story home off Edwin Ladner Road. Because of the extensive fire and smoke damage, officials believe the fire began on the first floor. No one was home at the time of the fire.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and released at the scene. Not only was salvaging the home a top priority, but also keeping the firefighters hydrated in the South Mississippi heat. Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said, “We have to worry about their safety from a medical standpoint, heart attacks, heat strokes and all those things that go with it, so every fire that you see it may not be blowing through the roof if you will, but it can still be an interior fire, one or two rooms involved, and it’s still very stressful, very dangerous, and it causes stress on the body.”
Agencies on the scene included Harrison County Fire Service, Pass Christian and Gulfport CRTC Fire departments, plus the Fenton Volunteer Fire Department in Hancock County.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
