Mississippi AG opposes federal ‘KIDS’ internet safety bill

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is pushing back against a proposed federal bill she says could weaken protections for children online.

Fitch this week joined a bipartisan group of attorneys general in opposing the ‘Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act,’ arguing the measure would limit the states’ ability to hold big tech companies accountable for online harms targeting minors.

Fitch says Mississippi and other states are already taking action against companies like Meta and TikTok over allegations their platforms harm underage users.

The coalition of AGs is instead backing the Senate’s ‘Kids Online Safety Act,’ which would require online platforms to act in the best interests of children while still allowing states to enforce tougher protections.
