Truck causes railroad damage in Biloxi
Yet another scare on the tracks in Biloxi this morning after an 18-wheeler got stuck at a railroad crossing.
Emergency crews rushed to Iberville and Irish Hill Drive a little after 7:15 this morning following reports of a truck traveling southbound on Iberville unable to cross the tracks.
A semi-truck helped the 18-wheeler off the tracks within about 20 minutes. However, the 18 wheeler caused damage to the tracks. Biloxi police officers blocked the intersection for about two hours as CSX crew members repaired the rubber.
City officials expressed frustration as trucks continue to attempt to cross the tracks while signs are posted on site alerting them to avoid the area. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Specialist Cecilia Dobbs Walton said, “We don’t want anything bad to happen to anyone. So, of course, we have the signs up. This one actually does have crossing arms too that CSX has put up to help prevent accidents, but of course we have signs up warning people and the City of Biloxi is still in the process of communicating with CSX and MDOT to make all of these railroad crossings safer.”
No one was injured in this incident. Police and members of CSX reopened the crossing around 9:15 this morning.
