Man arrested on multiple charges after fleeing traffic stop in Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)-A Gulfport man is facing multiple charges after police say he fled a traffic stop in a car linked to a recent vehicle burglary.
Fifty-eight-year-old Roy Rodney Robinson was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and burglary of a vehicle.
On May 17, officers spotted the car near 34th Street and 13th Avenue. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Robinson accelerated and fled.
Officers say Robinson drove at a high rate of speed, ignored traffic control devices, and drove recklessly. He later steered his vehicle toward an officer preparing to deploy spike strips before striking a curb. Police said Robinson then placed the car in reverse and hit the front end of a patrol vehicle.
Robinson and a passenger in the vehicle both had active felony warrants in Missouri. Both Robinson and the passenger were taken into custody.
Robinson was booked into Harrison County Adult Detention Center where he is being held on a $175,000 bond. The passenger is being held without bond pending extradition.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Gulfport Police Department or MS Coast Crime Stoppers.
