State auditor launches new effort to find waste in small agencies

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White is launching a new effort to crack down on wasteful spending.

The audit will be focusing on smaller state agencies, boards, and commissions.

The initiative follows earlier audits that uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars in waste across larger state offices, including excessive spending on vehicles, technology, and travel.

White says no agency is too small to be held accountable and vows to continue tracking how taxpayer dollars are being used.

The new audit effort is expected to wrap up by the end of 2027.
