Mississippi Special Session on Supreme Court redistricting canceled

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)- The special legislative session that was set to begin next week to discuss the redrawing of state Supreme Court districts has been called off.

The cancellation comes after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Monday vacated the opinion that Mississippi’s current Supreme Court map violates the Voting Rights Act and must be redrawn.

In response to that news, Governor Tate Reeves still says he expects lawmakers to redraw those Supreme Court lines between now and the 2027 Mississippi elections.

He also went a step further, saying he also expects state legislative and congressional seats to be redrawn between now and 2027 as well.
