Ocean Springs Makes History, Punches Ticket to State Championship
Ocean Springs wasted no time setting the tone. Emma Franklin ignited the offense early with a sharp hit up the middle, and Kerrigan Scott followed with aggressive base running, hustling home from third to give the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 lead.
The momentum only built from there. With the bases loaded, Gracie Shepherd delivered a big swing launching a towering grand slam that sent the home crowd into a frenzy and gave Ocean Springs a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Northwest Rankin refused to go quietly, battling back with three runs in the fourth inning to cut into the lead. But every time the Cougars threatened, the Greyhounds had an answer.
Franklin stepped up again in a big moment, crushing a deep shot to the student section that re-energized the crowd and extended the lead to 9-3.
The Cougars made things interesting late, plating three more runs to close the gap once again. But Shepherd came through in clutch fashion, delivering another key hit to drive in two crucial runs and push the lead to 11-6.
Northwest Rankin added a couple more runs down the stretch, but Ocean Springs held firm when it mattered most, securing the 11-8 win.
With the victory, the Lady Greyhounds have officially made school history earning their first-ever trip to the state championship in Hattiesburg.
A milestone moment, a complete team effort, and now one final step remains.
