Tributes pour in for fallen Jackson County deputy Michael Jimerson
Deputy Michael Jimerson is being remembered by local and state leaders after his death Wednesday night.
JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)– Tributes are starting to pour in for fallen Jackson County sheriff’s deputy Michael Jimerson, after he was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance in St. Martin Wednesday night.
Governor Tate Reeves took to social media today, saying in part:
“Mississippi is mourning the loss of Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Jimerson who was killed in the line of duty last night. Deputy Jimerson was a hero who bravely sacrificed his life while protecting and serving others. Our entire state is praying for Deputy Jimerson’s family, friends, and everyone at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. We will never forget him.”
Congressman Mike Ezell, who worked with Jimerson during his time as Jackson County Sheriff, also sent condolences through this statement:
“I’m heartbroken by the loss of Deputy Michael Jimerson, who was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call in Jackson County.I had the honor of working with him during my time at the Sheriff’s office. He was a dedicated officer who served with integrity and courage every single day.Suzette and I are praying for his family, his fellow deputies, and our entire community. We will never forget his sacrifice.”
Mississippi’s senior U.S. Senator, Roger Wicker, also released this statement:
“Deputy Sheriff Michael Jimerson paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty last night. Gayle and I join his family and community in mourning this loss.”
lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, Delbert Hosemann, released this statement:
“Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Jimerson dedicated his life to protecting others and gave it in the line of duty. His steadfast commitment to serving his community will never be forgotten. Lynn and I are praying for his family, his fellow deputies, and all who are grieving this loss.”
U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith shared this statement:
“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Jimerson, who died in the line of duty last night. He made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting his community. I join everyone in lifting his family, loved ones, friends, and fellow deputies in prayer.”
